Andie John Weller      (Ajay)

Prior to obtaining my teaching qualification I have worked across the globe as a professional dancer and vocalist for over 20 years. Specialising in production shows and family entertainment, I have knowledge and experience of working in the performance arts industry that I have found to be an asset when developing the talents of students training for a career in the profession. As well as performing I have worked as choreographer, stage manager and dance co-ordinator and have written, produced and staged many song and dance productions, many of which have been charity based to benefit causes within the local community.

With total commitment to continual professional development I am now furthering my skills with the United Kingdom Alliance of Dance and, having obtained my associate qualification in Freestyle dance, I am shortly to take my associate qualification in ballroom dance. However, I am an accomplished dancer in most areas and have taught ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and modern styles as well as contemporary dance and physical theatre. I have also recently obtained my gold medal LAMDA in the new musical theatre grades and have already used this skill to teach the LAMDA syllabus to my current students.

Extensive travelling has afforded me the opportunity to experience dance and theatre styles throughout the world, the most recent example being a principle choreographer at the renowned Stagedoor Manor in New York where I was privileged to choreograph the first student edition of ‘Miss Saigon’ alongside ‘Fame’ and other productions. Throughout a three month period I worked on thirteen full scale shows, working on each one with an enthusiasm and energy that encouraged the performers to always give their absolute best. It was also a privilege to be able to observe other teachers methods and to work alongside them and I felt I grew as a teacher as a result of this experience.

In recent years I have worked as mentor and tutor to groups of students including some who had challenging behaviour. I regard it as an accomplishment that all young people I mentored have progressed on to either college or full-time employment and I have been proud to see their achievements.
